Scholarship Rules
By applying for an AMTC scholarship, you are agreeing to the following information, advice, and restrictions.
Note: AMTC and its administrative team understand that any individual or family can experience financial challenges and hardships. Our scholarships are intended for financially challenged individuals with exceptional talent or modeling potential and/ or an exceptional life story. Scholarships are not intended for anyone who can pay the reasonable fees for AMTC. We consider AMTC a ministry, and we must have the funds appropriate to run our company.
We have thousands of hopeful and talented people from all over the world apply for AMTC scholarships. AMTC considers each and every individual who applies, but competition for scholarships is stiff. We intend to award 10% of our contestant spaces to scholarships. For 800 contestants, an average of 80 will be on scholarship. In addition, we may award partial scholarships.
Also, many contestants use the AMTC sponsorship materials to raise funds. Please see the Sponsorship Section of this website for ideas on fund-raising that have been successful for thousands of AMTC graduates. If you do not win an AMTC scholarship and/ or you need additional funds, sponsorship may be the answer. We believe that energy, enthusiasm, initiative, and hard work are excellent predictors of success- both in getting sponsorship funds for AMTC as well as subsequent success in the entertainment industry.
Financially challenged individuals and families should also understand that we do not know of any “free rides” in this industry- with the possible exception of a reality TV show (and it’s a very bumpy, depressing ride for all but the tiny few who are completely ready). If you are awarded an AMTC scholarship (valued up to $2,960), you will still be responsible for the other expenses listed below to attend AMTC. In addition, if you come to AMTC and receive an offer of representation, you will need money to begin a career. Although professional agencies do not charge a fee to join, you will have other expenses: travel, photography, marketing tools (comp cards, headshots, and/or listing on the agency’s website), and postage are standard.
We believe that you should consider the cost of entering the talent industry as an educational investment- as well as the exploration of your calling. What does it cost the average student to go to college? Tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. What are you guaranteed after that four-year investment of time, energy and money? Nothing. Yes, you may have a degree, but many people do not work within their major, and no career is promised. For a relatively minimal investment in AMTC, the awards are substantial!
- An AMTC on line audition application must be submitted, along with a video audition for actors, singers, or dancers and polaroid-style snapshots for models.
- Scholarships are valued up to $2,960.
- Scholarships will cover all AMTC registration fees, the six-day event, over 25 workshops on-site, call backs and/or speed networking with agents, 3 competitions of your choice, a personal talent advisor and/or the ability to join an existing group in training before AMTC, an AMTC t-shirt, a Dance Party ticket, and a photo in the program book. They will also include access to the amtconline.com curriculum website.
- Scholarships do NOT include travel to Orlando, a room at the Gaylord Hotel (contestants must stay at the host hotel), professional photos, an awards banquet ticket, extra competitions or an observer pass. Although professional photos are not required, AMTC recommends them- but only under the guidance of AMTC. (Few photographers understand current New York standards, so do not use any photographer unless his work, prices, and ethics have been approved by an AMTC staff member.) Clothing is not included, but nice jeans, black pants (or skirts), solid-color t-shirts, and one dressy outfit are all that is needed.
- Scholarship Recipients must sign the AMTC “Behavior and Ethics” Agreement, which pledges a minimum “B” average in school, a substance free lifestyle, and a commitment to role model behavior. They must also pledge to learn and follow all AMTC competition rules, guidelines, and advice to their best ability.
- Scholarship Recipients (or their parents) must pledge confidentiality as well as the willingness to assist the AMTC staff with an existing class, such as the transportation to and from the airport, calling students, or bringing supplies.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitudes are a must! Scholarship contestants and/or parents must be encouraging and helpful to AMTC staff and classmates.
- Perfect attendance is required.
- Scholarships cannot be transferred to another person or another event.
