Dream Smart

After you Dream Big, you must Dream Smart! Educate yourself about the industry you want to enter. What are leading agents looking for? Who has the best chance of success? Are you qualified? How should you prepare? AMTC believes in education. Students learn the value of excellence, as they rise beyond their peer group to a new one: the national talent industry, and competition is strong! AMTC includes coaching before the event, the amtconline.com curriculum website, and over 20 workshops on-site by national experts.

What are some of the predictors of success? AMTC has had a lot of time (28 years) to watch a lot people go through the AMTC experience. Here is what we are looking for:

  1. Intelligence: you have to be smart. In our opinion, being a high achiever - one who has a flexible mind and learns quickly, is the #1 attribute of success in the industry.
  2. A Calling: do you have a calling to perform? It can't be your mom's dream, or your husband's dream; it has to be your own. Your desire to be an actor, model, singer, or dancer should be strong and deep. If not, your career can be easily uprooted by challenges. A career in the entertainment industry is highly competitive, and everyone will encounter challenges, detours, and rejection. How strong is your calling?
  3. Practice, Practice, Practice: Have you worked and/or trained on a local level? Have you performed in school, church, or community theatre? As a performer (yes, models are performers, too), you should do everything you can right in your own hometown. It will help you fine-tune your skills, push you to be your best, get you in front of people, and you will gain valuable experience. Models, have you looked into age-appropriate magazines (the editorial sections in the back) to see how the models look and pose? The editorial sections will feature the trend-setting designers, their styling, and the most in-demand models.
  4. Personality: Do you have a warm and winning personality? Are you appreciative? Do you know how to speak in public and in private? Would you interview well?
